About DogYears
DogYears exists because “multiply by seven” has been wrong for as long as it has been repeated — and because the better answers deserve to be shown honestly, with their sources and their limits attached.
Two methods, no blending. Most converters quietly pick one curve and present its output as fact. We put the two credible approaches side by side: the veterinary size chart (first year 15, second year to 24, then 4–7 per year by size) used in clinical rule-of-thumb guidance, and the epigenetic formula 16 × ln(age) + 31 from UC San Diego methylation research, fitted on Labrador Retrievers. Where they disagree, we say so. The disagreement is information.
What this site is not. It is not a health assessment, a lifespan prediction for your individual dog, or a substitute for a veterinarian. Senior-care timing, screening and treatment are decisions for your vet, who can examine the actual animal.
How it is built. DogYears is a static site from ORBITFRAME. Every calculation runs locally in your browser; nothing you type is stored, sent or tracked by us. The charts are generated from the same code as the calculators, so the tables and the tool can never quietly disagree.
